Not ready to let go of summer just yet? Good news
: The latest fashion trend—the modern Boho—takes the easy feelings of summer right into autumn. Not sure how to pull it off? PEOPLE’s Fashion Market Editor Sarah Ball shares easy tips on how to achieve the look no matter where you are. Helping her out: two stylish PEOPLE staffers, Nicole Sands in Los Angeles and Char Adams in New York, who showed off their unique interpretations of the trend. We’d love to see more looks from coast-to-coast! Share your fall fashion style with the hashtag #50Styles50States and get more style tips at 50 Styles, 50 States.
TIP 1: Focus on silhouettes and patterns
On the West Coast, “you can get away with wearing something more casual and relaxed, with long-flowing lines,” says Ball. “LA style is a little more carefree, with outfits being much more ‘thrown-on-and-go,’ like the maxi dress.”
For the East Coast, Ball suggests following Char’s lead and going the separates route. “The pant and the top make the look a little more polished,” adds Ball. “Basically the key is to create balance: a solid top with printed pants makes the Boho look more wearable. NY-inspired style is about being on the go so for the fall, try prints that are in richer tones so it’s easier to transition from work to evening.”
Try: This cute swing dress ($34.94). Or if you’re going for separates, try this cuteprinted blouse ($32.94) or these comfy culottes ($11.47)
TIP 2: Remember that shoes help make the outfit
If you want to go for a more relaxed vibe, pair your look with “a bootie, which is slightly more casual,” says Ball. If you want something more refined, try “a lace-up, pointed-toe flat.”
Try: These super-cute olive flats ($26.94) or this suede ankle boot ($42.94)
TIP 3: Get creative with accessories
“If you don’t have strong staple pieces like Char and Nicole, you can still get a Boho feel by pairing your outfit with key accessories like a saddle bag, scarf, or a hat,” suggests Ball.
Try: These versatile raw-edge scarves ($14.94), this cute saddle bag ($24.94), or this on-trend panama hat ($24.94)
